A meeting in Hornitos brought together the entire team that will be in charge of the new SIAM II water propulsion system, which will supply non-desalinated saltwater to the Nueva Centinela project.
Francisco Rodríguez, CEO of Aguas Esperanza, highlighted the relevance of the meeting with all the teams that will execute this project. “There will be more than 900 people on site, counting the teams of our construction partners Bonatti and Sigdo Koppers, among
others, so it seemed tremendously important that the team could meet the other people involved who are in other areas and cities. At Aguas Esperanza, we are convinced that this is a single team with several responsibilities and that, with this initial kick-off, we will be more united to find solutions to the challenges a head,” he stated.
In turn, Osvaldo Rojas, Corporate Operations Manager of Sigdo Koppers, agrees on the importance of the meeting to define the main goals of the project in terms of time and manner. He emphasized that “the challenge is to bring water to Centinela and achieve this within the time frame and without accidents, based on the safety standards that we reviewed precisely today and with the management system’s guidelines”.
Thanks to the joint work of Bonatti-Sigdo Koppers, in charge of the construction of the new pipe, called SIAM II, more than 600 liters per second, about 4200 m 3 per hour of saltwater will travel the 145 km of the pipeline under construction that will allow supplying water to Nueva Centinela. It is one of the biggest investments announced by Antofagasta Minerals in the past five years. The project is expected to start operating in early 2026.
