At a ceremony held in Miami, USA, Francisco Rodríguez, general manager of Aguas Esperanza, received the “Natural Resources Finance Deal of the Year” award granted by Global Banking & Markets for the financing agreement amounting to 1.14 trillion pesos.
The event titled “Bonds, Loans & ESG Capital Markets Latin American & Caribbeans Awards 2024” recognized the main agreements in the industry in which Latin American companies participate.
Francisco Rodríguez said that it is an important recognition that reaffirms our commitment as a company. At Aguas Esperanza we are convinced that the way to solve not only the problems that the mining industry in Chile may have with respect to water issues, but also agriculture and human consumption, are desalination plants and water pumping systems. As long as our company helps to demonstrate that it is possible to do so through contracts and different forms of operation, without having to occupy continental water, I think we are making a contribution,” he said.
Since June 2024, Aguas Esperanza has been responsible for the SIAM I seawater pumping system, following its purchase from Minera Centinela to operate alongside the Nordes company. In addition, construction has already begun on the second aqueduct, SIAM II, and its contractors Sigdo Koppers and Bonatti are working on its construction, which is expected to be completed in 2026.
